State Zone and Junior Championships

State Zone and Junior Championships

Each year over the June Long weekend Hockey SA holds the State Zone and Junior Championships. These championships consist of the U18 and U15 Zone Championships and the U13 Club Championships and are the premier competition for state wide hockey in South Australia. These championships provide an opportunity for interclub friendships to be formed and for our players to play in single sex teams and games. They are also an opportunity to showcase the skills of our players, with the championships being used as one part of the selection process for state underage teams and development squads.

Zone Championships (U18 & U15)

Under 18 and Under 15 players compete in the Zone Championships. The state is divided into six zones with the Barossa combining with the Riverland to form the "Crushers". There are two city zones (Strikers and Mariners) and three other regional zones (Country West, Country East and Mid North).

Players are loaned a uniform shirt but need to provide their own shorts/skirts and socks. There is generally no compulsory cost to players, but there may be optional charges - eg representative jacket, present for the coach/team manager etc. Some families travel from the Barossa each day to play; others choose to book accommodation in the city.

The Zone Championships are played with round robin games on the Saturday and Sunday at various city venues and Grand Finals on Monday at the State Hockey Centre.

Junior Championships (U13)

U13 players from all the clubs in the Barossa combine to form representative boys and girls teams. These teams compete against other regional association teams and city club teams.

The Championships are played with round robin games and semi finals on the Saturday and Sunday and Grand Finals on Monday at the State Hockey Centre.

All Barossa juniors are encouraged to make themselves available for selection to represent the BVHA. Information regarding Trials and Trainings (boys and girls) will be put up on the website and sent out to each individual club as it becomes available. Further information is provided direct to players following selection. Players are loaned a uniform shirt but must find their own plain black shorts/skirt. There may be a cost for a pair of association socks and an optional association representative team jacket available for purchase.

Selection Policy

A dual player’s first priority is to their Primary Association/club. Dual players must register a Barossa club as their primary club to ensure eligibility to play in the Barossa teams. (Dual players are those that play in two different associations, eg Barossa and Adelaide).
