Mini Juniors gives young boys and girls the opportunity to learn the basic skills of hockey, develop fundamental motor skills and make friends all while beginning their lifelong love of hockey! The targeted age group in the BVHA is children aged from 5-11. All clubs offer a mid week session with an optional Saturday modified rules game against the participants from other clubs (U8, U10 and U12 age groupings). Mid week sessions are held at the home of the local clubs with the Saturday session rotating between Stockwell Recreation Park and at Trinity College, Evanston Park. The Saturday sessions run during terms 2 and 3, but participants can join the program at any time.

Club volunteers work hard, with the assistance of the Hockey SA Game Development Officer, visiting local schools, running clinics etc. There are regular free Come N Try session held. Non club based Hook in2 Hockey programs are also run at other venues throughout the year. These are advertised on this website and also at the relevant school/venue.

Adverse Weather and Cancellations

Hockey is traditionally a winter sport and it can be very cold and wet at times. However, on rare occasions the weather forecast can include severe weather warnings for such things as gale force winds, storms and hail or extreme heat. In these circumstances spectators and participants can be at risk. It may be possible to make modifications to the program for the day, in which case the session will go ahead. However, the BVHA Hookin2Hockey Coordinator also has the option of cancelling the program for the day.

If a Mini Juniors session is cancelled the Coordinator will give as much notice as possible. The primary means of notification will be via notification on the front page of this website and participants should check here if they are concerned. Notification will also be given to individual clubs, schools etc as necessary and also via social media (eg BVHA Facebook page, BVHA Team App).

The BVHA Mini Junior Adverse Weather Policy is available under the Documents and Forms menu above.
